Dear Parents/Guardians:
As you may already know, your child is taking music class this semester.
Music is a one-semester class that is required to graduate high school.
Your child is about to embark on an exciting new
experience. The music department has recently implemented a new hands-on music
curriculum, World Music Drumming. Some of your children have never played a musical instrument. This curriculum
will allow students the opportunity to learn to play multiple percussion instruments and will also allow students to be creative
and expressive.
Some benefits of implementing this curriculum are as follows:
· Bring the excitement of World Music and Drumming to our students.
· Teach African and Latin-American Culture.
· Build important work and community skills: Communication and listening, Cooperative Teamwork, and
Respect for others.
· Establish strong connections with other subjects.
· Use the excitement and motivation of drumming from Africa and the Caribbean.
·
Engage students through an active, hands-on
approach.
Since students will be playing on percussion instruments and fragile authentic African Instruments,
I ask that you have a discussion with your children about respecting our expensive
classroom instruments. Students will be playing on new instruments and we would
like to let you know that if your child breaks any of our instruments, it is their/your
responsibility to replace the instrument.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. I
look forward to getting to know your children and share exciting experiences with them in music. Feel free to call or email if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mrs. Bolender,
Music Teacher
